COVID-19 Testing

COVID-19 Testing

WE ARE CLOSED FOR SUMMER VACATION STARTING AUGUST 12 and WILL RE-OPEN AUGUST 29.

COVID-19 testing is available at our clinics by appointment only. There are no after-hours surcharges. Due to the nature of varying country requirements, our clinic offers testing 7 (seven) days a week including statutory holidays.

The timing of the test is crucial - it cannot be performed too early or too late.  The turn-around-time for tests is typically less than 12 hours.

APPOINTMENTS REQUIRED - Contact Us Well Before You Need the Test

Please email a copy of your itinerary as provided to you by your airlines/ticket agent and we will reply right back with a specific appointment time that meets the international COVID-19 testing criteria of your flight plan.

COVID-19 RT-PCR (NAAT) testing provided at our clinic is the international standard. We do not offer "rapid" antigen testing (YVR only).

Trusted Travel Partner - We are an approved COVID-19 Testing site for all travel to Hawaii

Flying to the USA

United States: Requirement for Proof of Negative COVID-19 Test or Documentation of Recovery from COVID-19

Required for all air passengers two years of age or older boarding any flight from Canada to the United States.

------------------------------------------------

Flying to the USA - What You Need to Know (Updated Dec 2, 2021 from the US CDC):

  • You will need to get a COVID-19 viral test (regardless of vaccination status or citizenship) no more than 1 day before you travel by air into the United States. You must show your negative result to the airline before you board your flight.
  • If you recently recovered from COVID-19, you may instead travel with documentation of recovery from COVID-19 (i.e., your positive COVID-19 viral test result on a sample taken no more than 90 days before the flight’s departure from a foreign country and a letter from a licensed healthcare provider or a public health official stating that you were cleared to travel).

What This Means: For example, if you plan on flying from YVR at 7:35 pm on a Saturday to the USA, you can be tested ANYTIME on Friday, the day before the flight. However, to ensure results are "in your hands" well before you board your flight, our policy is to test early in the morning the day before any flight to a US airport - this includes all transiting flights to other countries where a USA airport is used for stop-over purposes.

------------------------------------------------

Personal message from Dr. Cherniwchan regarding testing for travel to the USA:

Travel can be stressful, and even more so, for many during this pandemic. I do not recommend antigen testing for travel to the USA unless you have booked your ticket on the same day as your flight. This test is offered at YVR. Only a few countries in the world accept antigen testing, the US being one of them. The test itself is adequate but can be fraught with logistics issues that can heighten anxiety for travellers. Some travellers who have booked with us for a PCR test, then cancel when they find out about a less expensive option (antigen test at YVR), have reported to me the stressful experience of getting the testing done at YVR. Of course, this is not universal but from the handful of compelling stories that have been shared with me, I am even more resolute in my thinking that a PCR test done the day before travel gives travellers enhanced peace of mind. So, if you are serious about getting a PCR test for the USA and wish to get it with us, please send an email to info@fvtc.ca, a copy of your flight itinerary and preference of Abbotsford or Chilliwack for your test, and we will then reply with appointment details for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Dr. Darin Cherniwchan, Medical Director, FVTC
